NEW Sprout DVD | Let’s Grow: Lend A Helping Hand | Review & Giveaway

UPDATED 2/3 with WINNER below!

Let’s Grow: Lend a Helping Hand is a BRAND NEW DVD from Sprout* and HIT Entertainment.

Just released, each DVD in the “Let’s Grow” series is uniquely themed and the content focuses on different areas like safety, expressing feelings, manners and other preschool topics.

The “Let’s Grow” series contains episodes from HIT Entertainment’s library of programs including Barney™, Bob the Builder™, Thomas & Friends™ and many more.  The episodes are woven together by live action segments featuring hosts from Sprout’s original Sunny Side Up Show, along with their puppet friend Chica the Chicken.  Together they introduce the episodes, make crafts and play educational games themed to each DVD release.

If you aren’t already familiar with Chica & Kelly, here is a clip from the “Sunny Side Up Show” which we watch in the mornings on Sprout:

The iTwins just think Chica is the greatest!

As part of Sprout’s Band of Bloggers, I was able to preview “Lend a Helping Hand” with the iTwins this past week.

“Lend a Helping Hand” addresses helping friends and family and taking care of the community.  Hosts Kelly and Chica introduce each themed episode and demonstrate how kids can be helping hands through fun activities like creating and using a recycling bin and cleaning up after themselves.

My thoughts after watching the DVD:
“Lend a Helping Hand” is great introduction to the variety of shows Sprout offers while staying within the theme of “helping”.  We’ve been watching Sprout in our house for over a year now, so as soon as the iTwins saw Chica they were excited!  Both Chica & Kelly (from Sprout’s “Sunny Side Up Show”) host the DVD by demonstrating what a “helping hand” is through discussions and mini-projects.

I loved how they explained recycling, putting away clothes and turning off lights…these are all things that even my toddlers understand how to do and could follow along with.  While the “target age” is 2-5 years olds, even my 18-month-old sat and watched all of the episodes.

The five episodes on the DVD “Lend a Helping Hand” include:

★ Thomas & Friends “Dirty Work”
★ Barney “Litterbot” – (a HUGE hit with the iTwins!)
★ Bob the Builder “Clean as a Whistle Bristle”
★ Fireman Sam “Mother’s Helper”
★ Angelina Ballerina “The Ballerina Ragdoll”

I’m excited to add this DVD to our collection and look forward to the other DVDs in the “Let’s Grow” series.

My daughter is 5 and she loves lending a helping hand when feeding the chickens, when daddy works with his tools, cleaning the bathrooms (yes, she loves it) and her favorite is helping out in her pre-k classroom.

My daughter Zoey is turning 3 years old in April of this year and is learning how to help her nephew, Logan, who just turned two last month.  We would love a new video that incorporates the message of helping others through characters that our household has already grown to love!

The babe isn’t much for helping quite yet, but I do think that videos such as these are great exposure for kids!

My 21-month old has liked to help me with the laundry since he was about 16 months old.  They are front loaders and just his height.  I sit the basket down and he puts the laundry in the washing machine or out of the dryer.

I think Grayson would love this DVD. He’s a little obsessed with Barney and it would be good for him to learn something at the same time.

My little one’s only 1 1/2 but he likes to try to help set the table, vacuum, and pick up his toys.  Of course what he considers helping and what I do are two different things, but it is fun to watch him try :)
