Nuby Sippy Cups Review | Perfect BPA-Free Sippy Cup for Transitioning From the Bottle

Our Nuby Sippy Cups Arrived!  I was so excited to finally switch out my daughter’s bottle for these great new sippy cups.

Last week I wrote about how we were having a difficult time getting my 19-month-old to put down the bottle when she is sleepy.

After quite a few recommendations from fellow bloggers and other Moms, I decided to order the Nuby Sippy Cups to use as a bottle transitioning tool.  I ordered both styles (below) via Amazon.

Nuby No Spill Sports Sipper

Gripper Cup with Soft Silicone Spout

The plan was to use these cups in lieu of handing her a bottle when she started to get tired.  She already uses the Playtex hard-top sippy cups thoughout the day to drink water out of, so she knows these are clearly NOT her bottle.

These Nuby sippy cups did perplex her a bit.  The first night that I had them and she started getting cranky and “ready for a bottle”, I filled the Nuby Sports Sipper with her toddler formula and watered it down.  She walked around with her “baba” (as she was still calling it) and took a sip or two and that was it.  She stopped crying for a bottle.

It has worked every night and afternoon since then.

The PROS:

We started to give her regular milk in the Nuby No Spill Cup during the day, and she really likes it.  I think that since she is still cutting teeth, it’s easier on her little teeth and gums.  The soft silicone spout lets her take a sip without cracking the cup into her sensitive teeth.

It has been specially designed so the valve opens with minimum pressure and doesn’t require constant sucking that can damage new teeth and soft palates.

The Nuby Sippy Cups features:

  • BPA free
  • Spill Proof
  • Soft silicone spout
  • No valve
  • Vari-flow spout allows child to control liquid’s flow rate

I also love that it is super easy to clean.  I’ve been throwing both the cup and the silicone spout with the ring right into the dishwasher…it comes out perfectly clean.

The CONS:

If you do leave the cup upside down and depress the spout – it will leak.  Simply knocking it over won’t cause it to leak, so I guess that’s why it’s considered “spill proof” and not “leak proof” :) It’s a little thing, but still worth mentioning as I wouldn’t just throw the Nuby sippy cups into my purse.

I’m very happy with our Nuby sippy cup purchase and would highly recommend these cups to anyone who is transitioning their child away from the bottle.  I know they are also available with handles (Luv N’ Care Nuby Two Handle Sippy Cup 7 oz) for the younger set.  If we used these from the start with my daughter, we may not have had her hang onto the bottle as long as she did.

We used the Nuby Gripper cups with my son and had no trouble at all. That is, until he discovered they made great crayons on the table. As you wrote in your “Cons” with a little pressure, they’ll leak. He found it wildly amusing to “draw” on the table while we finished getting dinner ready. Simple solution was to just not give him the cup until after we sat down. Hope it continues to go well for you!

HI! I found your site through HrtsMakeFamily on Twitter….

I L-O-V-E the Nubby cups (you can also get them for under $2 at WalMart and replacement silicone tops at Babies-R-Us).  With two little kiddles (5 & 3) I’ve used them for years now.  Right now, they serve as great little cups for the car and in the top corner of their beds during nap or night time.  Saving me midnight trips for a little bit of water at night…they always get thirsty around 2 AM. Just be sure to check the tops regularly to make sure that they don’t drip…if they do, head to Babies-R-Us for the replacement top.  Welcome to the world of Nubby!

We have one of these as well – and the con about turning it over and pressing it so that it will leak is a big issue for us. BUT, it was the sippy that we first used when we transitioned her to sippies so it worked really well for us in the beginning. I think the soft spout is the big reason why.

I kid you not that I just started my littlest on the Nuby No Spill Cup just today.  What a coincidence!  (By the way, I’ve often thought we live in parallel universes with our boy/girl Irish twins.)

Actually, I decided last night about the cup and introduced it with her formula in it today at lunch time.  She drank the whole thing.  Didn’t seem to even notice a difference.  Now, I’ve got to buy more, because Lord knows I don’t want to wash one over and over again.

We used the Nuby with handles with my son and he loved them.  I agree with Sarah, they will leak [majorly] if the tots chew the end out of them, like my son did.

The Nuby cups are great but stock up on the silicon part if your girlie is a chewer. The valve in the top will break after some chewing and it will leak everywhere.
